Kevadon, a William S. Merrell Company brand of thalidomide, a drug which was prevented from being approved in the by FDA pharmacologist Dr. Frances Kelsey in 1960. The drug was found to cause serious birth defects and Kelsey was awarded the President's Award for Distinguished Federal Civilian Service by John F. Kennedy in 1962 for refusing, despite strong pressure, to approve the drug.
