Verruca treatment. Blisters on the foot of a 22 year old woman after cryotherapy treatment for verrucas. Cryotherapy involves the use of liquid nitrogen, at -196 degrees Celsius, to freeze and kill the verruca. The intense cold causes the skin to blister, lifting the verruca off the foot. A verruca is a wart on the sole of the foot. It becomes compressed into the skin by the weight of the body. Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Other treatments include burning away the verruca with a laser, or the application of salicylic acid.
