Medical vivisection. Satirical artwork that reverses the role of humans and animals in vivisection. An audience of rats, rabbits, frogs and dogs are watching as animal doctors prepare to vivisect the human on the operating table. Vivisection is the practice of dissecting live animals in order to advance physiological and medical understanding. This artwork was originally from 'Lustige Blatter', a weekly German humour magazine. This copy is from the German book 'Die Karikatur und Satire in der Medizin' (Caricature and Satire in Medicine, 1921) by the German art historian and physician Eugen Hollander (1867-1932).
