'A canal or aqueduct, 12 ft. deep and about 6 ft. wide, running from north to south along the valley, is cut in the rock and roofed with masonry so as to form a kind of tunnel. One of the largest voussoirs [vousoirs, or wedge-shaped stones] of the lofty bridge, falling from above, has broken through the roof of the aqueduct tunnel, and now rests upon the solid rock of its sides.
