Ui S. T. C. AND W. & DUAL DEBATE Home Teams Win By OxfordDecision The debate season was opened Fri-day niffht with a freshman dual de-bate between S. T. C, represented byAnne Pleasant Hopkins and MariaWarien, and William and Mary, rep-resented by Grace Mahan andAnna Cohan. The subject was theabolition of the jury system of trial. The debate speeches were clear,pungent and effective, the argumentsclashed, the four speakers joinedbattle on three main points: does thejury fail more than it succeeds, canit be improved, would a substitutesystem of trial by judges be more ef-ficient. The decision was by audiencevote and the S. T. C. affirmative seem-ed to be more convincing, as theyreceived G6 per cent of the votes, andwere declared the winners. High praisewas given to all the speakers fortheir clearness of thought and forceof argument. The visitors left pleas-ant memories as worth
