Hunting booty at a landing. On the steps in front of a balustrade lie a dead hare, heron, snipe, pheasant and other poultry. On and behind the balustrade, on which there is a vase with an orange tree, are two peacocks, and a turkey walks in the garden. A hunting horn hangs on the wall. In 1674 William III commissioned the construction of a new hunting lodge, Soestdijk, which was completed a mere four years later. Hondecoeter painted two grand hunting still lifes to be set in two arched niches in the entrance hall. The orange tree in the large garden vase alludes to the House of Orange. The park is populated by all kinds of birds, including peacocks and a turkey.
