WAR COMES TO SCHOOL: LIFE AT PECKHAM CENTRAL SCHOOL, LONDON, ENGLAND, 1943 - 13 year old Edith Carter baths a doll during a 'mother-craft' lesson at Peckham Central School, in which the pupils are also taught how to handle and dress a baby. Edith has a younger brother, so is used to dealing with babies. Her father is a war worker and their home was blitzed in May 1941. She has been evacuated three times. According to the original caption, this was a very popular class with the girls at this school
