First World War (1914-1918). Latvia. Suitcase with household items of a "Provodnik" factory worker before the evacuation due to the imminent German invasion. Because of the rapid invasion in the spring of 1915, the Russian authorities evaluated the possibility of evacuating towns and factories to prevent useful materials from falling into the hands of the enemy. The factory facilities in Jelgava were partially destroyed. The evacuation of Riga began in July. Equipment from the large factories was moved to Russia, along with the workers and their families.
