Giant kite in the form of a mermaid, above the beach at Agon-Coutanville, Normandy, France. Collections of gigantic kites in a variety of imaginative forms are a feature of the many festivals on the coast of Normandy. This example measures approximately six metres from buffoned head to shimmering tail. Others take the form of a giant cupid, pirate ship, shark, lizard etcetera. Frequently these displays accompany others in the form of groups of six or more synchronised teams, which perform aerial acrobatics to musical accompaniment.
