ORIGINALLY DESIGNED IN 1471 AS A FORMER STRONGHOLD UNDER THE CASTLE OF AMBOISE, IT PASSES IN SEVERAL HANDS BEFORE BEING PURCHASED BY CHARLES VIII AND BECOME A SUMMER RESIDENCE OF THE KINGS OF FRANCE. HE WILL KEEP THIS FUNCTION UNTIL 1516 WHEN FRANCIS I PUTS IT AT THE DISPOSAL OF LEONARDO DA VINCI, WHO WILL LIVE THERE THREE YEARS, UNTIL HIS DEATH ON MAY 2, 1519.
