Cyclone Pam over Vanuatu, 13 March 2015, satellite image. North is at top. Cyclone Pam was near its peak strength at this point, with winds of up to 265 kilometres per hour. The eye of the cyclone is at centre, moving to the south-west at 13:30 local time (02:20 UTC) on 13 March 2015. The islands of the Pacific nation of Vanuatu are shown in outline below the clouds. The eye of the cyclone passed just east of the island of Efate, home to Vanuatu's capital Port Vila. It caused huge destruction and killed an unconfirmed number of people. This image was obtained by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Aqua satellite.
