A printed photograph of a typical British WWII wartime oil tanker. Because of the British government investment in many of the early tankers the first ships bore the prefix British. Most future additions to the fleet followed the same naming convention. The British Tanker Company Limited (BTC) was launched in April 1915 . With the outbreak of WWII, the British government chartered BTC's whole fleet of 93 vessels to transport fuel ( crude and refined oil products including fuel oil, benzine and kerosine) to for its armed forces.
