Kangchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world, with an elevation of 8,598 m (28,207 ft) and presents some of the most impressive high mountain scenery anywhere on earth. The region lies on the border between India and Nepal with the district town of Tapulejung the main administrative center of the area. The mountains position east of the gap created by the Arun valley means that this region gets higher monsoon rainfall levels than most of the Himalaya and results in the surrounding lowlands having a tropical vegetation and help to support a thriving agricultural economy.
