Carey, who is one of the prominentbusiness men of Harvel, where he has beensuccessfully engaged in dealing in lumber forthe past fifteen years, has spent almost his en-tire life in Illinois, dating his residence herefrom 1837. Montgomery county has numberedhim among its valued citizens since 1875. Hewas born in the city of New York, December 1,1831, and was brought to this state by hisfather, Jesse Carey, who located in Pike countyin 1837. There the father purchased a tractof wild land and opened up a good conditions existed at that time and thenearest neighbor to the Carey home was three.
