Although the females are difficult to separate from those of M. niger, the males, with their greatly enlarged, modified antennal segments, are easily distinguished. ANGUSTICOLLIS SUBGROUP Adult. Almost entirely black to distinctly metallic blue or (rarely) violet. Head and pronotum coarsely, moderately densely, typically discretely punctate. Male antennal segment V with a rounded, moder- erately well-defined platform at apex. Sides of pronotum convergent posteriorly, either straight or slightly sinuate. Posterior margin of scu- tellum unique in being conically produced (Fig. 149). Tarsal pads of hind legs moderately to well Please note that these images are extracted from scanned page images that may have been digitally enhanced for readability - coloration and appearance of these illustrations may not perfectly resemble the original Pinto, John D; Selander, Richard Brent, 1927-.
