I am glad to report that the minesin this district are, with few exceptions, in ^iy good condi-tion, both as regards ventilation and other matters relative tohealthfulness and safety. Several new fans were installed duringthe year, and nearly all of the mines are now equipped with venti-lating appliances equal to the requirements, if i)roperIy utilized.
