The monument to William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891) was dedcated in 1903. An allegorical figure of Victory lead Sherman. The pine frond represents Sherman's Civil War March through Georgia. The monument, showing the effects of weathering, is gilded with two layers of gold leaf. Grand Army Plaza lie at the south-east corner of Central Park and is divided in two by West 59th Street or Central park South. Sherman's Monument lies in the northern half of the plaza. These two characters were making money by providing themselves for photographs with tourists.
