The vertical walls at Ausable Chasm gorge are made of Potsdam sandstone. The sandstone walls were dramatically carved during the last Ice Age (Pleistocene) about 15000 years ago. Opened in 1870, Ausable Chasm park is one of the earliest attraction in the USA and is now part of Adirondack Park region in the Upstate New York.
