In 1852 there were in the town 537 buildings inall. In 1884, according to the assessors books, therewere buildings in the city as follows : In the First Ward—685 dwelling-houses, 5 churches,2 public-school buildings, 1 parish-school building, 1boarding-school building, and factory property valuedat $62,500. In the Second Ward—1076 dwelling-houses, 4churches, 1 public-school building and factory propertyvalued at $479,250. In the Third Ward—lOOSdwelling-houses, 6 churches,1 public-school building, 2 public halls, and factoryproperty valued at $277,006.
