It seems thatthe English Penciled duck breeders have a bitterPill to swallow in that the Light Fawn Indian Run-ner ducks have been bred to lay pure white eggs. Iwonder if this is because their English Penciled ducksstill continue to lay some green eggs, although theyadvertise only pure white eggs ? I have reason to be-lieve this is true, because many of them are claimingthe Genuine Walton Strain as layers of pure whiteeggs only. Yet Mr. Walton, the originator of thisstrain, says in his 1912 catalogue, the English Pen-ciled Runners have many merits and few faults. Theeggs are perfect in flavor and quality, of fine size andappearance, varying in color from a delicate pale-green tint to a pure you will see it advertised by responsible breeders asthe Light Fawn. This is done so you may knowyou are getting the American Standard bird, and notsomething you do not want. The Brown and WhiteEnglish Penciled ducks are not so valuable as theAmerican Standard bird because tbey are not theStandard bird, and there is no possibility of them be-coming the Standard or ever competing with them. Ifthey are ever admitted to our Standard they will as aseparate variety, be at a side table. As I said before, the Light Fawn American Standard bird originatedfrom the English Penciled variety and to some extentthey still throw back to them in color, although the From my own experience with the English PenciledDucks 1 have found them exactly as represented byMr. Walton. As soon as I found I did not have theAmerican Standard bird I disposed of the entire flockand started again with the Light Fawn. I have hadno reason to regret it, because I have found it a moneywinner. I would advise
