Bus shelter with reflective soffit. Binfield Road Bus Shelter, Stockwell Framework Masterplan, London, United Kingdom. Architect

DSDHA have completed Stockwell Square as the second phase of their Stockwell Framework Masterplan, following the success of Wilcox Road. This project has rebalanced the public realm in favour of pedestrians and cyclists closing the road adjacent to Stockwell tube station to all traffic except buses. The space will offer the opportunity for the local community to meet and gather, or hold occasional events such as markets, becoming a catalyst for ongoing investment. The design has included new paving, seating, lighting, and a row of Robinia trees planted on Binfield Road which connects the station to Adie, Button & Partners’ Grade II*-listed 1952 bus garage nearby. Building on local consultation, our design includes a bespoke new bus shelter which acts as a meeting space at this busy interchange, alongside the introduction of a carefully placed new Cycle Hire bank to improve opportunities for local connectivity and the permanent siting for a local fruit and florist kiosk.
