No. 191. — First Movements {Fa-cings)— Right. Facings are thosemovements by which the body turnsupon its longitudinal axis so as tochange its front direction. Each calis-thenic facing consists in the body beingturned to the right (describing one-fourth of a circle, as represented by thedotted part of Fig. 93) on the left heel,or to the left on the right heel, withthe body kept perfectly upright. Thesame heel that is used as a pivot todescribe a side facing, is the one upon which the body is turned tothe front, or to the commencing position. Both feet will tell the10*. At the command, Right, the student will raise the right footslightly—just enough to clear the floor—turn on the left heel (raisingthe toes a little) until he faces exactly to the right; then, at thesame instant, he will bring the toes of the left foot down, and theright foot to its place beside the left; heels together and toes turnedout, as at first. The student will immediately regain the commencingposition at the command, Front, or without a word of facing to the right will be executed four times ; then, at thecommand, Left, four corresponding facings will be executed to theleft; and finally, at the command,Alternate, eight facings will beexecuted alternately, first to theright and back to the front, andthen to the left.
