Teak tree with survey and census tags, Mandalay region, Myanmar
Natural Burmese teak is the best quality teak in the world and, along with poorer quality plantation teak, Myanmar supplies 75% of the world supply of this valuable wood. The history of Burmese teak is one of chaos and violence. The Burmese government recently imposed a teak export ban and is trying to crack down on illegal logging. Many of the natural teak trees we saw had one or more survey and census tags, as seen here.
