Mont Saint Michel bay, Tombelaine and St Michel mount (Manche, Normandy, France).
Mont Saint-Michel is a rocky island granite east of the mouth of the Couesnon, the rock on which was built a shrine in honor of the Archangel Michael from 709. Prior to that date, he was known as the "Mont Tombe." Throughout the Middle Ages it was commonly called "Mont Saint-Michel at the peril of the sea" (Mons Sancti Michaeli in periculo mari). The tidal range is very important in the region (more than ten meters) allows much of the bay to be discovered at low tide. Two granitic islands are in the bay of Mont Saint-Michel, Tombelaine and Mount Saint-Michel. The area hosts a wide variety of birds and harbor seals.
