Abd Al-Rahman I, 731 - 788. Founder of the Emirate of Cordoba. He reached Almunecar in 755 after escaping from Damascus where his family, the ruling Umayyads, were deposed during the Abbasid Revolution. The statue stands in Almuñecar, Granada Province, Andalusia, Spain and is the work of Granadine sculptor Miguel Moreno.
