Thus, it is seen, that a farmers homestead inMissouri consists of one hundred and sixty acres of land and the 54 MISSOURI. ments thereon, not exceeding in value $1,500; the homesteads of the res-idents of the smaller towns are of the same value; while that allowed tothe inhabitants of St. Louis, St. Joseph and Kansas City, where land ismore valuable and the cost of living greater, is fixed at $3,000. The Constitution places it beyond the power of reckless or dishonestpublic agents to burden the people with excessive taxation.
