Deep fibular nerve block. Artwork of a syringe being used to inject a local anaesthetic to numb the deep fibular nerve, a procedure known as a nerve block. Nerve blocks applied at the ankle allow surgery to be carried out on the foot. Below the ankle, this nerve provides surface sensation for a small area between the big and second toes (see C016/6838 and C016/6839). The injection is applied in the area indicated (red line) with landmarks to aid correct placement (blue line and black circle). For all five injections for a complete foot nerve block, see C016/6830 to C016/6834.
