Feral Goats (Capra Hircus) in Snowdonia, Wales.

Feral goats on the side of LLiwidd, a mountain in the Snowdonia range in Wales. Feral goats are not native to Great Britain. Their domesticated forebears may have been introduced by early neolithic human settlers, however, their genetic history is only just being unravelled. It is possible that other goat breeds were also introduced during Roman colonisation and certainly during the Victorian era when the ‘modernisation’ of domesticated livestock became popular. It seems likely that all herds of feral goats in north Wales have undergone some introgression with modern breeds in the last 200 years and for several herds this may have occurred in the last five decades.
