Burnley's Panopticon "The Singing Ringing Tree" is a unique 21st Century Musical Sculpture in the form of a wind blown tree.
The Singing Ringing Tree is a unique modern, 21st Century musical sculpture, a landmark Panopticon for Burnley, Pendle and Lancashire, situated close to Dunnockshaw Millenium Wood, part of the Forest of Burnley reforestation programme. Situated on the hilltops at Crown Point, overlooking Burnley, with its famous Turf Moor Football Stadium at it's centre, it is visible from miles around. On a clear day, from it's commanding and imposing position it also overlooks, to the North, Pendle Hill, The Bowland Fells and The Limestone Pavement of The North Yorkshire Moors including Ingleborough, Pen-y-ghent, and Whernside. Close by, to the East of Burnley, bordering West Yorkshire, are the twenty-four wind turbines at Coal Clough Wind Farm, Cliviger. The Panopticons is a visionary scheme led by Mid Pennine Arts and founded by The North West Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and The Lancashire Economic Partnership (LEP). It's aim is to create a series of stunning 21st century landmarks across East Lancashire as symbols of the renaissance in the area. "The Singing Ringing Tree", a sculpture by Award Winning Architects Tonkin Lui, is the third intriguing artwork to emerge from Panopticons. In the form of a wind blown tree, it is constructed of galvanised steel pipes, tuned to produce a melodic-hum which will not disturb the wildlife around the area, as the wind blows through it.
