As a lettuce for greenhouse forcing, this variety undoubtedly stands at the head of the list, being of quick growth, little liable to rot and standing for some days after being fit to cut. The plant is upright, and forms a loose head or cluster of large, yellowish green leaves, slightly crimped and blistered and rather thin. It is an early variety of Head Lettuce either for forcing or open ground. It forms large, solid heads of a good, light green color, and is very slow to seed. The leaves are beautifully marked and blistered, and very crisp and tender and of excellent flavor. By these blis- tered leaves it distinguishes itself from any other kind of lettuce now grown. This new variety resembles the well known Boston Market Lettuce, but produces heads almost double the size, and matures a week later. Endures hot weather exceedingly well. It forms a mammoth head and remains tender and crisp throughout the sea- son, is prompt to head, but slow to seed, of superior flavor and very hard.
