The names of military assets should appropriately reflect the courage, values and sacrifices of our diverse military men and women, and 1st Lt. John Warren, Jr. is a great example of all that. While serving as a platoon leader in Vietnam, Warren, then a 22-year-old Soldier, used his body to shield his fellow Soldiers from a thrown enemy grenade; he gave the ultimate sacrifice and perished January 14, 1969 in Vietnam. Warren was also the recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. He is a local hero and he displayed the courage and values that Soldiers can emulate.
