Resignation of Randolph Churchill as chancellor, 20 December 1886

Original Cartoon from Punch Magazine 8 January 1887 by John Tenniel (1820-1914). Churchill later claimed claimed Salisbury had failed to support him in cabinet, as opposition grew to his reduced Army estimates. it's widely believed he expected the cabinet to capitulate to his demands & to return in glory. In reality his career in mainstream politics was over.
