10 percent of Madrid residents feel lonely frequently. The pandemic has exacerbated the problem, which does not distinguish between ages and multiplies among young people, and the Madrid City Council has promoted a two-year plan to prevent it with a budget of million euros. The strategy includes programs already implemented in the city and new ways to detect unwanted loneliness such as a website, a mobile app to request accompaniment and home visits to 7,000 people that will start on June 1. For the first time, this "360 degrees" plan is promoted jointly by the area of ​​Families, Equality and Social Welfare and the area of ​​Security and Emergencies. It is a problem that involves "not only the elderly, but also the young and middle-aged. The 'Madrid with you' program, focused on working on prevention "in all its facets", from those who live alone, to those who have been widowed or have suffered recent losses. And 7,000 home visits a year by social integration technicians with several years of experience with older people are part of this program, which will allow a more precise assessment of the status of users and inform them about the resources they can avail of. They will start on June 1 and will be carried out by eight full-time home care workers.
