Photograph by David Coleman. The Panorama of the Battle of Waterloo represents a unique preservation of early 20th-century military commemorative art and museum design. Built in 1912 for the battle's centenary, this circular building houses a massive panoramic painting measuring 110 meters in length and 12 meters in height. The artwork, created by French Naval artist Louis Dumoulin in collaboration with military artists Robiquet, Malespina, and Desvarreux, captures a crucial moment of the Battle of Waterloo at approximately 6 on June 18, 1815. The painting depicts Kellerman's 3rd Corps, survivors of the 4th Corps, and the Imperial Guard's cavalry divisions in life-size scale, utilizing innovative foreground elements and perspective effects to create an immersive viewing experience. As one of the few surviving panorama buildings from an era when such installations were popular attractions, the structure holds special historical significance and is now protected as a classified monument.
