Dudley Shutter-Worker Co. end of which is a thread working against a cog-wheel forminga part of the bottom hinge of the blind. On account of the slowness of pitch of the thread,it is very difficult to move theblind from the outside, but the lev-erage is sufficiently strong toV enable one to easily open theblind from within by turningthe crank. A very similar appliance tothis is the Brown shutter-worker,Fig. 255. Brockton shutter-worker. Figure 253, in which the thread Tyler Mfg. Co. on the spindle works into teeth onthe bottom of a plate forming a part of the lower SH UTTER-FIXTURES. The Automatic Shutter-worker, Figure 254, combines thegood points of several other devices, and is somewhat morecomplicated than either of the preceding. Two cog-wheelsgear into each other. The shaft of one wheel is carriedthrough the wall and can be operated by a crank or handle in-side the house. The shaft of the other wheel turns a crank,or bent lever, the end of which works in a slide attached to theface of the blind. The cog-wheels are encased in an iron box, which is shown partly removed in the figure, in order to illus-trate the workings. Aside from the number of parts, which isno very great objection, this shutter-worker has a great deal torecommend it. It is strong and compact, and can act on theshutter with such force that, it is asserted, a child can workthe blind with it in a high wind. It has the advantage of per-mitting the blind to be removed without disturbing the fixtures. One of the simplest acting shutter-workers, is illustrated byFigure 255. This
