The 700 was used under 50 ton cars andrecommended as standard in 1904, bythe M. C. B. Assn., but afterwards, up-on the recommendation of our associa-tion, was modified to 725 lbs., and madestandard in the year 1909. This designis shown in Fig. 4. It will be noticed that in 1904, thefirst wheel made standard for the 50ton cars weighed 700 lbs. In 1909 wesucceeded in getting the weight increas-ed 25 lbs. During the time intervening,a new wheel was introduced of the rolledsteel type, and notwithstanding the al-leged superiority of metal, the steelwheel substituted for the 700 lb. chillediron wheel, weighed a minimum of 750lbs. Fig. 5 is a composite drawing show-ing the contours of the early 525 , and the present standard 625 725 lbs. wheels. The present indications are that the50 to
