A stratum of lofty clouds nearly coxers the blue of the sky, whichshows, howe\er, near the lower |)art. i)articularly in a broad band just above thehorizon. Here and there gently drifting cumuli, touched by the sun. float along inthe gentle breeze, and the warm light upon them is concentrated chiefly behindthe tree t()|)s on the right and left of the composition. Twocows are drinking in the j)ool, and their keeper sits on the bank just beyond amedium-si/ed tree which hangs over the pool of water below. Beyond the i)ondis a broad expanse of pasture land, with two slender poplar trees growing nearthe i)ool in the middle distance, and far away in the horizon is seen the churchspire of a large village with a low wooded hill beyond, and on the right and leftscattered clumps of trees. The sky is entirely filled with masses of drifting vapor,strongly accentuated by the sunlight, which is concentrated near the middle ofthe picture. Here and there tiny spots of blue show
