1990s archive image of the south side of the Thames, viewed to the west from Greenwich. The boat in the middle distance is the Massey Shaw, prior to restoration. Massey Shaw was built on the Isle of Wight in 1935 to a LCC design for use as a London Fire brigade fireboat. The boat made three journeys during WWII as part of the evacuation from Dunkirk and then returned to work as a fireboat on the Thames during the Blitz. She was decommissioned in 1971 and received a Heritage Lottery Grant for restoration in 2008. The boat is now moored as an attraction in the South Dock of West India Docks.
