The Epiphany Old Golutvin Monastery in Kolomna, Russia
The Epiphany Old Golutvin Monastery is located in one of the most beautiful parts of Kolomna at the confluence Oka River and Moscow River. According to the second book of the Chronicles of Sofia, the monastery was founded in 1374. This date is also found in the writings of some modern scholars. However, most authors prefer another date, which was taken as the date of foundation of the monastery - in 1385. There was a whole literary tradition that goes back to the famous Life of Venerable. Sergius of Radonezh, written by Epiphanius the Wise, indicating that the monastery was founded at the request of Saint Prince Dimitry Donskoy, Saint Sergius of Radonezh and his disciple Saint Gregory. Most historical sources mention a vow made by Prince Dimitry Donskoy right before the battle of Kulikovo in 1385 to build a monastery if he would win. This is why this is the most likely date of its foundation.
