Bates was admitted to the Berkshire bar in February, 1854, and re-moved to the West. Norman L. Johnson was admitted to the Hampden bar in 1855 and began practicein Pittsfield. He afterwards removed to Ohio, where he died. Newton T. White of Stockbridge was admitted to the Berkshire bar in October,1860, and died about two years later. Augustus Turner of New Marlboro was born in Norfolk, Conn., January 23, 1797,and studied law with Bates Turner at St. Albans. Vt. He was admitted to the Berk-shire bar in February, 1828. He settled in New Marlboro where he was town clerk.
