Person holding biochar, a carbon-rich charcoal made from pyrolysed (thermally decomposed) plant material. Research has shown that using soil with biochar added consistently improved sugarcane yields when compared to soil that did not have biochar added. Other potential uses being investigated include animal food supplementation, biofuel and more sustainable concrete production.
