Sunny cumulus clouds view snowy moorland plateau Pennine Way heading south from Oldgate Moss to Millstone Edge and Standedge, South Pennines, UK

The winter of 2010-2011 included the UK's coldest December since Met Office Records began in 1910. The mean December 2010 temperature in the UK was minus one degree Celsius. In some places the temperature was down to minus 10 degrees Celsius (!4 degrees F). Late November to Boxing Day 2010 included two spells of severe winter weather in the UK with very low temperatures and significant snowfall. The firs cold spells lasted two weeks from Thursday, 25 November to Thursday, 9 December. The UK was under the influence of a prolonged north-easterly airstream drawing bitterly cold air from Northern Europe and Siberia. Sunny, cumulus clouds view of snowdrift covering the Pennine Way on its journey south of Oldgate Moss towards Millstone Edge and Standedge, between the Colne Valley in West Yorkshire and the Castleshaw Valley in Lancashire. Saddle worth Moors are seen in the background of the shot. The A 640 Huddersfield Road lies to the north, behind the camera.
