A Persian round shield of wootz Damascus, circa 1800, The shield forged in two parts, with a riveted, forge-welded outer rim and a riveted flange. Carved into the centre on the front are cartouches depicting warriors and panthers, the border with floral decoration and animals. Fine gold inlays, partly engraved, some faded. Four gold-inlaid shield bosses, four loops with two leather carrying straps on the back. Diameter cm.
