Situated within the most northerly range of this township, and extending northward into unsurveyed lands, Big Squaw Lakedischarges into Little Squaw Lake and thence into the Pickanockriver, an important tributary which flows into the Gatineau riverfrom the west. It is about 36 miles by road from the town of Shaw-ville which lies north of the Ottawa river and miles westwardfrom Ottawa city on the Ottawa and Waltham branch of theCanadian Pacific Railway. In a -straight line, the Squaw Lakemolybdenite deposits are about 35 miles of the Moss orWoodmine which is situated on lots 9 and 10, range VII of OnslowTownship, about 3 miles north of Quyon Station which is mileswest of Ottawa city. The township of Huddersfield was surveyed in 1870 but, atleast in range VIII, apparently the lot lines were not run and bothas regards their position and their outlines, the lakes and riversare not correctly shown on existing maps. With the exceptionof the small area of land that has been cleared in the course ofprospecting operations, lots 18 to 28, range VIII, are small map (Fig. 1) accompanying the present report is merely adiagramatic sketch showing approximately the position of thelakes and the streams and the general geological relations within thearea examined; the position of the roads was roughly determined bymeans of a prismatic compass and pacing.
