The cruise shipyard still employs about 700 people, before the crisis in shipbuilding it was 1300, making it one of the largest employers in Wismar. Since March 2016, the shipyard has belonged to the Malaysian-Chinese shipping company Genting Hong Kong. Genting founded the new MV Werften, which will in future comprise the Wismar, Warnemuende and Stralsund sites with a current combined workforce of just over 1,700. The shipyard group filed for insolvency in January 2022, and as a result the yard was sold to Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems in June 2022.
