Woodlawn Cemetery is one of the largest in the city of New York. Opened as a rural cemetery in the Bronx in 1863, in what was then southern Westchester County, in an area that became part of the City of New York in 1874. It has more than 160 acres and he has buried more than 300,000 people. It is built on rolling hills and some streets there are lined with trees. It has unique memorials designed by McKim Mead & White, John Russell Pope, James Gamble Rogers, Cass Gilbert, Carrère and Hastings, Sir Edwin Lutyens, Beatrix Jones Farrand and John LaFarge.
