MSC container ship, Toronto, moving east in the East Lamma Channel, past a backdrop of Aberdeen skyscrapers, Hong Kong, China


Founded in 1970, operating 409 ships, servicing 270 ports worldwide, the privately owned Mediterranean Shipping Company, based in Geneva, is currently the second largest shipping line in the world. The MSC Toronto, its deckhouse moved forward to increase container capacity and torsional strength, was built in 2006. It measures 325m x 43m and has an average speed of knots. MSC (Hong Kong) was established in 1996.
