Vancouver, Canada - 28 May 2010; no people in view. Avoid! This was seen safely in a Vancouver Aquarium, but I would not advise getting too close in open seas. The Atlantic sea nettle (Chrysaora quinquecirrha) lives along the Atlantic coast of the United States, Canada as far south as the Gulf of Mexico. Each sea nettle tentacle is coated with thousands of microscopic trigger cnidocytes and coiled stinging filaments which inject toxins capable of killing smaller prey or causing a painful rash in humans. Ouch!
