Transmission Efficiencies Editor Automotive Industries: The writer was very much interested in reading theabove editorial, which appeared in the Jan. 6th issue ofyour paper. The writer has been conducting extensive tests in thelaboratories of the Joseph Dixon Crucible Co. with trucktransmissions to determine the efficiencies of variouslubricants, and the results obtained have been such asto confirm the results described in the paper recentlypresented to the American Society of Mechanical En-gineers. The tests conducted by the writer were such as to pre-clude, as much as possible, any errors in observation, since each test was repeated several times, and both theelectrical and mechanical readings were employed as acounter-check. Two different types of transmission were used in thetests conducted by the writer—one, a heavy truck type, which was apparently identical with the one described inthe A. S. M. E. tests. This transmission is of a conven-tional design, with the constantly meshed
