False-colour computed X-ray tomography (CT) scan of an axial section through a normal abdomen. The liver is at left, coloured yellow; its upper part is obscured by the gall bladder (in violet). The kidneys are distinct at the bottom in red; the left-side organ appears smaller than its U-shaped partner at right. The large, bony body of a vertebra, coloured blue & red, separates the kidneys. The red circular object above & to the right of the vertebra is the abdominal aorta, the principal artery in the body.
